Lowrance LMS-522 and portable pack

I have used my Lowrance LMS-522c with internal GPS sonar as a hard water flasher for a few years. I never bought a different transducer. I just rigged a 1 in dowel to the transducer and dropped it down the hole. I have two questions:

1) is getting a transducer designed for ice fishing going to make a difference?

2) does any one know if the Lowrance Portable Ice pack is compatible? I see it comes with a transducer and a "NEW" float system.

I have had the LMS-522 for several years, with the pack like this: http://www.monstermarketplace.com/portab...-blue-connector

I have only used the ice fishing transducer. I put a white float on it, like I use with my FL-20, instead of using the gizmo that comes with the pack. It is nice and simple when running from hole to hole. Just pull up the transducer, carry to new hole and "plop", in it goes.
