Matt Johnson
The crappie action is a little slow the last two or three days with the cold front that came through. You can still find them but they are less aggressive. You have to go smaller and fish lighter. I've been using a single euro larva on a size 10 Ratso. I tried some new jigs for crappies which is nothing special but it works. Its called the Safe Jig by Catch-N Tackle. I've been using the hi-glow red flame in 1/64oz. Safe Jigs These have red hooks and the eyes buldge out a bit giving a unique profile. I've been tipping these with Bio Bait or euro larva. Something different that gets the crappies attention and weeds out one or two fish from each group. I've also noticed that the larger crappies have been hugging the bottom more lately, and the smaller ones will rise to feed from time to time. I don't like to bypass the suspended fish but this is a situation that call for it if you want to catch bigger fish. Don't let the jig hit the bottom, let it down to about 18 inches off bottom and hold it completely still, then about every 10 seconds give it a slight wiggle, and then let it hold still again. Deadsticking with small minnows and maggots has been working ok as well.Good Fishin,Matt Johnson------------------First Choice Guide Service [email protected]IceleadersCatch-N Tackle and Bio BaitMarCumStone Legacy
Fishcatcher
Caught 30 craps with a buddy on Saturday in 3 hours. 40ft hole, small minnows, most 10-20 feet off bottom. But fish all over. 8"-12" fish. Going back out and seeing if we can get more 10"-12", and get some sunnies.
