Self contained Porti potty in wheelhouse?

Has anyone used or considered using one of the self contained flushable Porta Potty's in their wheelhouse? If so, how does it work or not work?

The obvious question is the tank water freezing up. I thought about if you filled the tank after arriving to your spot and keeping the temp. above freezing it should not have any issues????

The 5 gallon bucket and bag trick works, but I am looking at something a little less gross for the wife and family/friends....

We us one and we do exactly what you are talking about, filling it when you get to the lake. Then after cleaning it out at home I put a little RV antifreeze into the fresh water holding tank and cycle it through (flushing the toilet) to eliminate any freezing. I personally wouldn't go back to the 5 gallon bucket. Just my opinion.

Finding a spot to dump it, preferably a septic line or dump station. Then ultimately rinsing it out with water. Putting the blue stuff in really helps this part out a lot wink Not a big job, but tossing frozen bags is easier. If it was just the guys probably would not get one, but for the ladies it is a little more civilized....until you have you have to dump and clean.

I went a little overboard with how I do it, I cut into the main sewer pipe going out to my septic tank and installed a 4" Y and ran the pipe to the surface and capped it off with a cover that screws off. I dump it in the pipe coming out of the ground, rinse in the garage and dump again. You could just dump into a garbage bag, rinse, dump again and let it freeze. I like it for the reason I have 2 kids myself and a handful of nieces and nephews that I take out over the course of the winter and having a "toilet" is easier with the littler ones.

Thanks for the replies!!

Chad-What make/model do you have and how many flushes do you get?

I was doing some research and found some complaints about how the units are emptied. Some said you have to use a RV dump site type application to get rid of the waste. I thought I saw somewhere that the waste could be dumped right into your toilet at home?? I was looking at the Thetford models, both electric and piston pump models.

I have a Thetford hand pump model, think the reservoir holds several gallons which has been fine for a weekend trip, I use windshield washer fluid in mine.I empty into the toilet at home. You do have to be in the right mood when you clean it as it can be kind of nasty

Matt,

Mine is a Coleman that I bought on the way out of town at wally world after forgetting my other one in the house and it froze. I have no complaints on anything with it. Any portable toilet should be able to dump into a toilet. Mine is a hand pump model.
