Looking to get started

Hey everyone, I've been looking around the forum and have seem many neat photos of anything and everything and it's making me kind of want to start getting into photography. I live for the outdoors and being that we dont live in the country so I could just step outside and feel at home, I would like to take some pictures of my favorite places to ease my strong dislike of living in town. What would be a decent, relatively cheap but not dollar store cheap camera that would be good for someone just getting started? I dont need top-shelf but rather middle of the road. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I hear canon has one, it's the 1D-X. Just kidding I was looking at a web site dpreview.com. Does anyone have an opinion about this site?

It's a solid review site. When I want to start looking at a specific piece of gear to buy, I start there.

Not much loot for me to get the lenses so I use a canon powershot sx30is. fun camera and the I fine tune with elements 8. 400 bucks or so.
