iffwalleyes
1000 miles isn't anything on a ATV. Father in law had a sportsman 600 that had the computer go out at 9000 miles all his. My wife has a 400 with 3500 miles minimal issues with it. I think between me and my father inlaw we have had more issue with our new XPs that the regular sportsman series. I think you would be just fine.

Bandit155
klee, If you have any buddies who have wheelers take them along to look at the used machines when you go shopping. Like the other guys said, it depends on who drove it and how it was driven. I'm 60 years old, have a 500 EFI Polaris and never go over 30 mph. I've had mine for 3 years and have 300 miles on it. I have a plow on it and use it for ice fishing when possible and have never abused it. My neighbor is about the same age and has probably put in $500 or more in parts in the first 1000 miles, but that's because he's always running wide open and abusing it. Look any used machine over good because a dealers power washer and a little elbow grease can make it look like new from the topside.
