A Great Weekend

On Thursday I headed to Chetek to a fish camp put on by Wisconsin Women Fish. On Friday we had a seminar given by Walleye Fishing Pro Marianne Pfister Huskey, followed by question and answer sessions with other knowledgeable women who fish. I personally wasn't able to get my boat out on Friday because of the wind, but some of the other gals did and had some luck. Saturday morning we had a session on making our own crawler harnesses, followed by an on the water session on learning how to use a planer board. We also had sessions where mentors answered the questions of those who were novices to fishing. We shared work, fun, food, and camaraderie amongst the 50 of us. I wish all women who would love to fish had this opportunity, I came away from the weekend much richer than when I went.

That does sound interesting! I was up at Mille Lacs over the weekend - the first opportunity I've had to fish since the Sturgeon Excursion. Just getting out on the boat and feeling the wind and waves was like heaven. We stayed at a beautiful cabin at Appeldoorn's, and had a wonderful time. That said, I didn't catch a single fish! Mostly because I was too occupied with taking pictures, chatting with boatmates and enjoying the lovely weather. I would check my bait and oops! Gone!

But that part was my own fault, and I'm pretty okay with it. It just felt so good to be away from work, out on the lake and enjoying the company of some good friends.

As the leaves are turning, however, I'm starting to think more about what needs to be cleaned up or fixed in the fish house. Soon it will be time to keep a supply of fish house food on hand for weekends on the ice!
