Strongest spring,wheel design?

Looking to rebuild our current system. Have noticed some differences between the various designs. Some have entire spring above the arm, some have spring shoved into arm and use the spring to handle the load of winching and the eye of spring as the "pinnable" point. The Yetti I looked at today had the spring into the main arm, with another arm above that to handle the winching load, then pinned through the leaf eyelett. To me, a spring mounted above the arm, another arm above that to handle the winching load and act as a failsafe in case of spring breakage would be the most reliable. Also, isn't using only half the leafspring to absorb the shock asking for trouble? Maybe just overthinking things? Opinions please.
