Early ice out?

what do you guys think of fishing for crappies right after the ice is out?? I want to try it this year for the first time. Have you ever had any luck with it??

I fish some of the river backwaters and dams right after ice out and the action can be pretty hot. Also, the bays and shallows in the north ends of the lakes produce well too if you hit them right. Once the water changes over the crappies will become active near spawning areas and action can be pretty good.

I've had good luck fishing backwater areas of lakes before all the ice is even of the lake.
