I have a duck shack one block from Freeborn lake. I'm going to be hunting elsewhere!!! Lots of muddy open water if that is your thing.

If you're in that country, you might want to swing over to Geneva. Good looking lake, big enough to handle some hunters, and while I haven't been out there since this spring, it usually holds some ducks. Otherwise another large and good lake with plenty of natural blind is Pickerel by Albert Lea.

Freeborn can be pretty good if there are birds moving through...they don't stick around long though because, like most mn duck ponds, the water is too high and full of carp. Head a little further west and you will get into much better hunting over by wells and fairmont.

Like Nate said can be good later when ducks are on the move, use to hold lots of mallards late in the season years ago. I would try maybe Minnesota lake. Geneva and Pickeral will be packed I'm sure.

Thanks for the info guys! I appreciate it. Has anyone ever hunted rice lake? The one that is right south of walnut lake? I know there is a county park out there so i wasn't sure if you could hunt out there or not. I have been hunting Minn Lake a lot the last couple years and it is pretty hit or miss....just lookin for some new spots to try out. Thanks

MN Lake is good. Dan Z always spent a fair amount of time there.

The Walnut Lakes and Twin Lakes are good. Bear Lake is decent but know that the bog floats really bad.

Anybody try Perch in Blue Earth County?

Live about 2 miles away from Perch. Lots of pressure early in the season, and fair amount later on. Grew up about 2 1/2 east of it and still havent hunted it once.
