cheddar 86
I just overseeded my lawn 5 days ago today and am eager to see some results. I basically mowed as low as I could go when I did all the prep work, but I think the darn existing grass is going to get tall too fast (95% fine fescue) relative to the germination times of the seed mix (Scotts Sun and Shade - red fescue, some ryegrass, and kbg). I've read that Kentucky Blue Grass takes about 30 days to germinate, and am wondering should I just let everything grow super tall and not disturb the lawn, or should I mow when the new grass is at 3" as I've read?I did top dress about a .25 inch and worked the seed in, so I'm wondering if the seeds would be protected well enough that haven't germinated? hotrod1
I would keep mowing your lawn. Maybe cut it at the highest setting so you don't disturb the seed and new grass as it starts to germinate. Also try not to let it dry out to much in this drier weather. Powerstroke
KBG takes a minimum of 21 days to germinate and thats if ideal conditions occur right away. Since it may take a couple days your guess of up to 30 days is correct.
