Wireless Router

Recommended Posts

So my 7-8 years old Netgear Wireless router is about dead. I need to plug and unplug a lot now for it to work. Getting tired of going up and down the steps to basement. Long story short......Time to buy new one.

Any suggestion for N router that can run 2 to 3 laptops without me running arround to make it work. I heard good things about Cisco, but I am open to any make. I do notwant to spend more then $100-150 unless I have to, for reliable opereation.

Any other configuration that I need to look for other than it being N?

Thanks!.

I have a wireless Cisco/Linksys (WRT-160N) that started requiring periodic reboots and it was driving me crazy too. Did some digging and found there was a firmware update and after upgrading it has worked flawless since. Mine is a couple of years old now but it was below the $100 mark when new by a fair amount. Other than that one hiccup I would get another if I had to replace this one.

I have linksys/cisco at home here and after upgrading the firmware it run well too. I would try upgrading the firmware on your netgear before buying a new one. But most the home devices are going to be OK for you, they are all doing pretty much the same thing the same way. Just a different look in their web page for configuration.
