2001 chevy 8.1

Recommended Posts

i have a 2001 chevy 2500hd with the 8.1 in the past few weeks the truck has started to act up. the truck starts fine will run for 10 mins or so then will die. if you wait about 5 mins truck will restart and then run fine until you shut it of and let it sit for 4 hours or more then you start the cycle over again. It hasn't triggered the service engine light either. Trucks fuel gauge also just goes to empty once in awhile thinking it is a seperate issue with that but not sure. thinking running issue may be a crank or cam sensor. any help is appreciated not afraid to get dirty but need somewhere to start.

the crank sensor is known to go bad on the 8.1. there was a special policy through gm on them for stall/no start concerns.. i would start there. its on the driver side rear of the engine on top of the transmission and is hard to get to. be careful when removing it as it may break if forced too hard.if you have access to a scan tool watch the rpm when trying to start it.no rpm=bad crank sensor
