Shift lever

I have a '93 30 HP Johnson tiller and this past weekend when I went to put the motor in neutral things didn't feel right so I shut the motor off to have a look underneath the hood. Please bare with my description as I'm not certain on the terminology.

The shifter outside the motor seems fine (moves forward and reverse). The problem is inside the engine. I noticed the vertical rod with springs that moves up and down was slid down a little. I looked closer and noticed a smaller black piece that has a bolt going through it had came apart from the vertical piece. This smaller piece rides on the shifter and engages the engine in forward and reverse (I'm assuming). I found 2 washers loose but did not find a nut. Did a nut come loose or does the bolt screw into the vertical piece? I played a little on the water to to get things lined up but didn't want to lose any parts in the water. Is this easy to fix myself? Does anyone have a diagram how to hook everything up again?

Thanks in advance for the help.
