Kids fishing spots between Thunder Bay and Wawa

Recommended Posts

Taking family on a week long "walkabout" along north shore of Lake Superior between Thunder Bay and Wawa in August. Looking for advice on trout fishing opportunities that can walk/hike to, good bait shops for supplies & info, and campgrounds. Kids (3 boys 14,11, & 8) really want to catch some brook trout. Other trout OK too. Don't have to be trophy size by any means, numbers more important than size. Not bringing boat this trip as will be doing variety of stuff in addition to fishing.

Looking at one day charter on Superior to get them on the big lake and at least one, better 2 or 3 days stream fishing doing the basic kid/pole/have fun exploring a stream/river type day. Advice on tackle, lure, presentations. They are very experienced with open face spinning rods. Could toss canoe on top of truck if really needed, but prefer to travel light this trip and one canoe and 5 people doesn't work well. Also any other must do's in the area for kids? Any must do side trips?

Idea is to have fun exploring this part of Canada and catch some trout when hiking a stream/river.

Thanks!

Lots of what you are looking for between the town of Nipigon and Rossport. Cypress, jackpine and Gravel are perfect streams for what you are proposing. My favorite is Dublin Creek. All the streams are pretty good for small brookies but those I mentioned are the easiest to walk up and down.

kkahmann,

Thanks for the info. Kids need to just be turned loose to explore and not have everything "setup" easy for them, and all tightly scheduled. Adds more adventure to the trip. Any particular bait shop that you would recommend in the area? Usually like to pickup some supplies, bait etc local.

Thanks again!

Anyone else have any thoughts to add?
