Kayak on the morning news this morning that had the "split" tail? It opened into a "Y" shape with a lever and stabilized the yak so you could stand in it. Ironic how I watched that and thought how cool it was, then proceeded to dump the canoe this afternoon with my brother-in-law and 12year old. First time for both of them.

I saw something like that at the Sportshow. It's kind of a neat idea, but I wonder about durability and storage. It would probably be great as a dedicated "fishing in town" boat though.

As for dumping the boat with first timers, I wish I would've been there to see it! I hope no one got hurt or lost anything valuable though...

No one got hurt, and nothing lost. My son had some tears in his eyes at first and soon realized that it was no big deal and laughed with us as we swam the swamped canoe back to the shore.

Good deal. It's actually a good thing to practice with an empty boat, lifejackets, and decent weather. It just helps to take the shock out of the whole ordeal, and make you more prepared for the less than ideal times it happens.

i didn't see the show but by your description, that yak sounds like the freedom hawk kayak. there's pros & cons with it of course...
