Sacrificial anode

bopper4

Question

Bought a new motor guide last fall and the lower part of the shaft is collecting corrosion each time I hit the water. A buddy has a sacrificial anode on his motor guide and has never had corrosion. I assume I should have received one with my motor but I did not. Any idea on where a guy can purchase one and if this will stop the problem. I plan on calling motor guide after the long weekend.

Check with an marine supply store (Duluth/MSP). A local boat shop might have the zincs you're looking for, but chances are they would have to order you one. IF it is the style I'm thinking of it would be a smaller dia of shafts on inboards.

BUT....I think there is a bigger problem going on, I'm curious which lake(s) you are fishing that are so "hot" that your motor is coming out w/ electrolysis already taking place. And check the Zinc on your main and kicker motors are they pitted and eroded away as well?

Main and kicker are just fine. Doesn't seem to matter what lake it is. I have been on Winnie, vermillion, lotw just to name a few and have had the same problem any time I drop the motor down.
