Fishing Hawaii

I'm going to be taking a trip to the Big Island for two weeks at the end of Sept. Anybody here have any insight into shore fishing anywhere around Kona and Hilo. Plan on taking by shore-casting rod. Might even pack a lighter rod for some casting. Any info would be appreciated.

From my snorkeling experience, there isn't much in the way of predator fish to target near shore, except possibly needle fish which are small-ish but quite cool looking! Of course there's probably plenty that I didn't see, but I believe if you want to find game fish, you likely have to venture well past wading depth water.
