SD west river odds

I applied for a draw in SD for the first time. I read the odds, but has anyone ever got in without preference points??? I really want to head out there this fall, but my odds are slim!

Pumper, lot of variables there, What county and species did you put in for? I haven't seen the numbers yet for this year. I know guys who get drawn on thier 1st try and subsecquent years with no pref points. Alot depends on how many apply with pref ponts for which species. I know guys who give it a time time shot and call it quits for various reasons. God luck.

If you do not draw during the first draw you can look after the third draw and see what is available. Non residents can then purchase left over tags that residents might not purchase.

Last year was the first year that I did not rifle hunt it SD since 1999. So if you want to hunt you probably can.

Thanks guys. It is zone 45A west river, and the odds aren't good. I was just hoping to hear about a odd story that i can get my hopes up for. Missed the draw last year to get my point in cause i was not paying attention, and now i am chomping to get out there. Looks like i will have to wait until next year.

i was looking into it but the odds werent good at all, your better option is if you know a land owner and plan to hunt his land only you can get the special buck tag its like $450? something like that your odds increase but you cant hunt public land

Pumper, I'm not sure how much, if any, portions of 45A have been affected by the flooding. Anyway, go head and apply and at least get a pref point and who knows, ya might get lucky.
