Avid Angler
I have noticed some people out doing some bow fishing for carp at night this spring. I am curious if anybody knows how successful these guys are at it. I was wondering how many fish they can get in an outing? I want to thank those people for doing it. I hope they are getting a mess of them. I know we will never eliminate them completely, but it would be nice to keep the population in check. maj330
Bow hunting has a negligible effect on invasive carp population control. See the peer reviewed research being done by Sorensen Lab at the U of MN for effective means of invasive carp population control. http://www.rwmwd.org/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={6167B18D-3959-498A-9605-7108BA3E6AF3}&DE=
goblueM
carp are such prolific spawners that its almost impossible to check the populationfor example, we removed 100 carp from a 1/4 acre pond with electrofishing (landowner wanted them shocked til depletion) last year, this year pulled out 70. must not have missed too many, but don't need but a half dozen to get millions of eggs every spring
