Movie Making Mogul?

Recommended Posts

Friends, I just gotta ask somebody! A fella I know tells me he is making movies and selling them, and I HAVE seen him loading up people in costume and heading out for site shoots etc. But he drops by one day and shows me what appears to be a high en Canon DSLR and tells me THAT is what he is using to shoot films that are then taken up to (I guess) 35mm and distributed out of H'wood. I nod and smile and wonder whether I have my stupid face on or maybe I am really that far out of touch. But as a guy who lugged around a 16mm turret Bolex and a couple Buealuies back when I was somebody it is hard for me to believe this guy is shooting films that Hollywood is buying and doing it with a camera no bigger than my Nikon DSLR.

Help me out here......am I totally over the hill!?

There are a number of TV shows, films and commercials being shot with DSLR's or at least partially with. Now it takes some specialized equipment to be successful but the heart of these systems is the DSLR. The advantage of shooting with all those lens choices, high ISO, shooting at night capability and small size are making these an ever popular choice with those with the skills and talent to properly use them. Canon 5D Mark II's and 7D's along with Mark IV's seem to be the Canon choices. The wave of the future!
