Motor help.

I got a 25hp 1973 Johnson that I changed the water impeller out on this winter. Today I took it out to local lake and the only gears I had was reverse and neutral. Forward gear was actually neutral, and neutral and reverse would engage the reverse gear.

Any ideas on what is going wrong.

You know that small brass shift shaft coupler behind that little plate on the side? It sounds like you may not have that just right

I have been playing with that for 2 hours now, I think that is the probem as well, but I just can't seem to get it to work right. Any tips/suggestions?

Thanks for your help with this and past issues with this motor.

I finally got it, seems like a these are very touchy and only takes few millimeters either way on the coupler to throw the motor out or into to gear. Hopefully it is working now.
