Bought Ranger boat - transom trolling motor?

I just bought a 17 foot Ranger Sport, with a 115hp Johnson. It has a bow mount trolling motor (Motorguide), and I have another bow mount (Minn Kota) that I will use as a back up. I want to put my Minn Kota transom mount on the boat. Is this easy to do with a ranger?

It all depends on the boat and I'm not familiar with the transom on your boat. My guess is there's no place to clamp the transom mount motor to the transom, so you'll have to add a static mounting bracket. To do that you'll want to bolt through the transom, so you need to have access to the inside to put the nuts on. Can be easier said than done ...... good luck.

Not sure about that particular model, but I've read that you need a specific drill bit to get through the bracing/hull on a Ranger. Something about a super hard material that you need to drill through. Might want to ask a dealer to be sure.

What you'll need is a Panther brand mount such as this or something similar:
