Navigation Lights

As I look through the MN boating guide regulations I see that option A states:

When underway, motorboats less than 40 feet long display--

1) A 225 degree combination red and green bow light.

2) A 360 degree white stern light. When at anchor, only the 360 degree white light is necessary.

So it appears I've been breaking the law when I shut the stern light off while slowly moving along with just the trolling motor.

If I understand this correctly, the white stern light should never be shut off while on the water....correct?

yeah...from sunset to sunrise. I guess I forgot to add that part.

unless you are doing over 50mph and have the water cops on your tail... then you can run with no lights.

ALSO,

If your boat has docking lights,

TURN THEM OFF IF NOT DOCKING!

Your boat does NOT have headlights, they are docking lights, and they ruin the night vision of every other boater out there at night.

I was out on white bear last night testing the new fish finder and these two boaters were running the lake with headlights on their boat. Now that was annoying.
