Need Advice

My wife and I are expecting in the fall and we are looking to get a nice camera. I would also like to have a camera that allows me to take outdoor shots. We are looking at a Nikon 3100. Good pick, bad pick, advice?

Would like to add that we would rather have a nice camera instead of a video camera, but the ability to shoot short videos would be nice.

I just bought one of these today. For the price I think it's a good deal. I haven't taken but 20 pictures with it so far and all of those were me just messing around with different settings. I would say go for it and I think it will do what you want.
