DuckDog
Anyone know of a really decent deck stain? I tried Behr which was the worst I have ever used. Suggestions?
chanfish
duckdog,i had a huge cedar deck built 7 years ago. South exposure. Even had contractors come do the stain and was very pricey..always had to restain next spring. long story short try ready seal. they provide stainn mostly to contractors but you can order directly from them and they provide excellent customer service and tips on how to effectively clean and prep which is key..one part bleach-four parts water and scrubbing will get that thing looking white like brand new..then a nice light coat of stain and you are good..of course i used the same stain color that i put on the deck new. ( i got their name from the contractor) so search ready seal stain out of texas and you should be happy. i sure was. they took the time to help me the first time i did it and screwed it up. (wife not happy about that) the deck looks like new after being under all this snow and southern exposure..no more staining and more time fishing. thats what im talking about.. crothmeier
Sikkens makes a good product as does Superdeck. I have Superdeck on my fence. railing and deck. I stained the first two years, then every other year after, and the color stays pretty good.I used to sell decking materials, as well as stains. I sold other brands, but these two seemed to get the best customer feedback.
Walleye Guy
I have good luck with Super Deck and a product from Pittsburgh Paints. Don't know the name of it. I have three years on the Pittsburgh Paints one on my current deck and it is just starting to show some signs of wear. Bought it at Menards. DuckDog
Thanks all - if you come across any others please let me know. It seems that the deck part (cedar) wears off after the snow comes off. I follow the proper procedures but I am having no luck.
