I have a FL8 Vexilar. Some time ago I read on this site how to open the unit and clean the screen, bearings etc but I did not bookmark it. Can someone share the procedure please. Thank you in advance and have a great day SRMrK2

They have pretty good instructions on their HSOforum.

From the home page select "Support" at the top or bottom of the page.

From the Support Links page scroll down to "Frequently Asked Questions".

Select "How to Clean FL Units Brush Contacts"

That will take you to the instructions for opening the case and cleaning the parts. You can follow the link there to service parts, brush assembly, and get additional instructions with a diagram, if you wish.

I have found that the dust inside is usually from the brush assemby wearing, and you will probably need to clean or replace the brush assembly. Replacing it requires soldering, but you may be able to just clean them if you aren't comfortable with electrical soldering. Or send it in for a tune up.

Thank you for the advice. I have already taken the suggested steps off the web site for cleaning. I have noted that the brushes were ok yet. After thoroughly cleaning I placed a couple drops of silcone at the base of the motor and left it set for 30 minutes while spinning it with my hand, I blew off the excess and wiped the unit clean. I did follow the instructions and used very fine (400) sandpaper, ran the unit for 30 minutes to hone the brushes and ta-da . . it is brighter and quieter than the last couple years. I am anxious to try it on the big pond next weekend. Thanks again and have an enjoyable week . . SRMrK2
