Sweet Marsh

Some of you maybe familiar with this area.(by tripoli,ia.) Years ago we used to have three bodies of water there that provided not only some awesome fishing, but good duck hunting. Then they drained two of the areas( it s mostly mud now). We still have good fishing for the first part of the summer, but then it gets weeded in. I'm told, the duck numbers a down also! Now they have posted that there are some invasive weeds in that part,( Martins') and they plan to kill them off. The problem is, and what they are not saying; is they plan to drain it! Like the rest, it will be left as a marsh/mud area. We have very little places to fish in this area. It is amazing to see the number of bass boats out there every year fishing! I would hate to loose this one too! They have posted, that there will be a meeting about this.( posted at the ramp at Martins) If this is of interest to you, call your state rep. and voice your concerns!

We fished the marsh Monday. The bass fising had slowed down from monday( so the guy claims i was with! ) we managed about 14 fish for the morning, with the biggest being about 5 & 1/2 lbs. ( we were using jigs, and senkos)

Well they haven't drained/lowered the marsh as of Sunday. Two buddies fished it hard! Had an 80+ fish day!

Well! Draining the marsh so there was little water came back to bite the dnr in the !!@#@#!!! With the heat last week they found over 100 northern floating! They let the water back in , but don't know how many other fish they lost!
