Disagree- have a look at the structure scan module - LSS1

I think he's asking about the new Elite DSI units --- they do down imaging but they cannot be networked to any other units.

If you're talking about StructureScan and HDS units, you can see the side scan and down scan image on all of the HDS units and can control each one individually. But you still can't use the universal sonar for the down scanning, you can only use it for conventional sonar.

so new ? i have a hds 7 with insight and was looking at buying a hds5x for the bow can i link the 2 units so i have gps on both? (hds5x does not have gps just sonar) but will i be able to share the gps off the main unit

I think the only GPS info you can get on the 5x is just digital data display -- ie. you could show the coords for your position and your speed and bearing and stuff like that, but I think that's it. You can't use a map card in a 5x and you can't set waypoints on a 5x, and I don't think you have any kind of plotter or map display. I'm not 100% sure on that but am 99% sure on that.
