Minnkota steering tension knob question

I own a vector 55pd thrust motor and the steering tension knob doe not tighten like it should? I called johnson outdoors to order a new part, but feel it is too much money? Does any one know of a way i could jimmy rig something up to produce the same desired result?

What do you mean by it doesnt work like it should? If it is tightened all the way it is possible that you need a new cable.

its a transom mount and the knob does not tighten holding it securely in place if i want to troll straight without having to keep my hands on the handle.
