Trout fishing near Orr MN

I will be taking my 13 yr old son to a cabin on a lake NE of Orr next week. He really wants to do some trout fishing and would be tickled to fish for brook trout. Does anyone know of any trout streams/lakes near there? We will be on the edge of the BWCA.

Hopefully someone else can offer more info, but I remember a show on Trophy Trout Lake in Hibbing???? They were catching monster rainbows and browns one after the other.

It was a pay trout pond where fish are fed. I am not much to pay to fish, but if a youngster wants an experience, it may be worth a look.

There are also numerous smaller trout streams and lakes from Orr to Ely. Try posting in that forum and you may get some good info.

trophy trout lake is between buhl and chisholm. it is a mine pit. it used to be a fish farm but after that went under a guy bought it and released all the fish into the pit and charged people to fish there. now it is closed because noone was catching fish any more they seem to have died off. when it was running the fishing was awesome... some huge trout were caught including 2 22 pound browns and a 19 pound rainbow one of the browns was caught on a fly rod! that is a long ways from north of orr any way hope you find some where to chase trout. dark river north of buhl has brookies and browns and there is a trout stream in side lake area too.

suggest you look at the MNDNR HSOforum, find the trout fishing section. They have a link to all designated trout lakes and streams in the state. You could also so a search for trout fishing in minnesota on bookstore websites and find a nice book (don't remember the title) that gives details of all trout fishing opportunities in MM and WI. As I recall, there were indeed some opportunities in the Orr area, or not too far away.

A call to the DNR office nearst Orr would also be very helpful. They will give any info available.

I'm not aware of much trout fishing in the Orr area. There are some stocked lakes over towards Ely, down around Virginia and the other Iron Range cities, and Lake Trout up in Mukooda by Voyageurs NP. All of those are a ways off from the Orr area.

Which lake are you staying at NE of Orr?
