Bayport Power Plant - Fishing?

Guest

Posted this in the St. Croix river thread but no-one is replying so i'll post it here.

Was thinking bout going out to the Bayport Power plant to do some fishing. What types of fish is in that stretch and what types of live bait / lures should I use? Any help / tips would be greatly appreciated!!

It's good fishing, I've heard of all types of fish being caught there, but I've never fished it, I heard it good for cats, and I've heard of nice crappies caught there, as far as baits go, you'll probably have to try some, I'd personally probably start throwing some small plastic tubes for crappies, or lindy with a crawler or leech. I'd suspect you'd find some white bass, but I'm not sure. Try it out, post some results, you might get a bit more help that way.

A number of years ago I worked at the plant for a short time. In the fall the walleyes move into the warm water discharge channel and can bite extremely well early and late in the day. I started work at 6 am and many mornings that fall I caught a limit of walleyes before work. There is a parking lot outside the plant and a path down to the channel. The fast water nearest the plant was the best in the current breaks. There were also some smallmouth and lots of white bass. Note: if the power plant was down no sense fishing.
