Pontiac G6 trans shifts harsh, and P0114 VCT code

Recommended Posts

2006 Pontiac G6 with 2.4L ecotech and auto trans.

1st ) transmission : very harsh engagement into drive or reverse, and harsh upshifts. No trans DTC present. Can fluid pressure switch fail and not generate a code ? How long should this take to replace ?

2nd ) P0114 code indicating exhaust VCT actuator problem. Don't have access to a labor guide today, how long should this take ? Many years or auto repair exp, just haven't done one yet and don't know how much of the day I should allow.

Thanks for any responses !

Don

The actuators are bolted to the top of the valve cover on the passenger side of the engine. One bolt a 10mm socket and a ratchet and there out in about 30 seconds.

These are really common on the new 2.4 ecotech and cause all kinds of drive ability problems. Usually its the intake vct actuator that goes bad but they are the same part # I think. The test is to ohm check them they should be around 13 ohms (going off memory here). If one is bad it will be noticeably different in the ohm reading you get.

I wouldn't think twice about replacing the actuator (if it is bad) and seeing if the other problems resolve themselves.

Thanks Airjer, I was hoping you would chime in here.

Planned on addressing the VCT actuator first, clearing the codes , see how

it drives out after that. Sounds easy enough to replace, I'll post a follow up

after the repair.

Thanks,

Don
