ABS question

Recommended Posts

went to town today and stopped at 3 places. everytime i stopped i shut my truck off. after the 2nd time when i turned it on the dash was dinging and i had a "check break system" and a "ABS" light flashing. this happened again after the 3rd time also. when i got to our gravel road i pressed on the breaks to see what would happen and the breaks locked up and didnt make the sound like the abs was working. after i parked in the garage and turned it off and then turned it back on the warning lights didnt come back on. did that a 2nd time and the same results. was it cause it was cold out? or do i have a fuse or something hopefully cheap going out?? its a 2500 hd 4x4 chevy

It could be many things. Basically any malfunction in the abs system is going to set the light. When the light is on the abs portion of the brake system does not function

If it were mine I would see if it happens again and if it does you are going to have to get it checked out.

We would have trucks come in with an abs light on real cold or snowy days. It was often times moisture in the front wheel speed sensors. Often times the problem will go away on its own IF thats whats causing it. That is why I suggested waiting to see of the problem persists.

Mine comes on occasionally when it gets below zero, never on a consistent basis. It goes away after the brakes get warmed up and sometimes I need to restart the truck for the fault to clear. I wouldn't worry about it unless it comes on more consistently.
