Weekend Report-Sioux Narrows Area...slush & trout

Fished four days in the Sioux Narrows area for lake trout. Fishing was very good on sunny mornings, slower when cloudy or in the afternoon. Biggest trout was 32 inches. Very little slush on 1/14 (Friday). Slush grew every day and by 1/17 slush was very prolific on the lake surface with no discernible pattern (narrows, open areas, old fishing spots, even some heavily traveled snow machine tracks all had some slush). Depth of slush varied, but it was getting deeper steadily. Not trying to be a downer, but be prepared...

Fished Nestor Falls Saturday. -38 degrees, my trusty, never let me down Jiffy auger would not start. After jacking around with the auger and rounding up a back-up auger, we caught perch, walleye, tullibee and crappie. It was slow but productive. It was actually better than I expected based on the weather. The ice was 20" and we found no slush.
