Hayward WI area ice update

Recommended Posts

I spent last weekend fishing a smaller, clear water lake in the Hayward area. We found 11-12" of clear ice and an inch or two of snow on top...perfect for travel!

My primary pattern on this lake is to fish deep weed edges in 12-14 fow. My Humminbird ICE 55 does a great job of showing me exactly where that edge is....2 or 3 blue returns (in the ICE 55's exclusive 6-color palette) in the bottom 2 or 3 feet of the water column is right where I want to be. This produces a steady string of LM bass during the day with an occasional musky in the mix, followed by 30-45 minutes of walleye action at dusk. This trip would be no exception to that general rule.

Most of our bass were in the 12-15" class, with walleyes 16-20". It's not a numbers game for eyes on this particular lake, but our size distribution tends to be excellent.

Will be back at it again this weekend!
