Big-Al
I replaced the primer pump this year and it does not seem to function. I don't think it is the pump itself, I think the fuel is not getting to the pump "sump". When I take the pump off there is slight fuel dampness but that is it. I assume the fuel must route through the carb and I am thinking the source is plugged somewhere. Anyone have any ideas? This pump seems essential to cold weather starting. Macgyver55
I've not dealt specifically with just the primer, but I've cleaned plenty of carbs. I'd say pulling the entire carb off and cleaning it to make sure the journal that feeds the primer is clean is what you need to do. If that is plugged there is a good chance that there are other places that need attention too. If it sits for extended times over the year, the bottom most parts are the first to become plugged from stagnant gas. Make sure the main and pilot jets are clean and that will help with easier starting too.
Big-Al
Thanks Macgyver. I guess I will have to tear into it sometime soon. It runs great once running, just very tough to start when extremely cold.
