Snowmobile ice fishing setup

Recommended Posts

I thought I would share my snowmobile setup in action to give ideas for others. On early season trips I like to travel light, and took my daughter out yesterday for a little pike fishing. The buckets hold the minnow pail and any fish caught, The black tool box holds the sonar, tackle bag and extra gear. The buckets and toolbox are just mounted to a board that attached to the rack on the back of the tunnel. The backpack she is wearing holds rods, tip-ups, and everything else (backpack is still a work in progress). The auger is just strapped to the side of the rack. Later in the season, I will switch to a power auger, move my equipment to the flip over shack and pull everything in the sled. The hitch bar for that assembly can be seen just below the auger.

We had a good trip, caught fish, but had to travel through LOTS of slush to get out to the spot. The ice was only about 9" thick so with today's new snow be careful out there

I did not work the gas auger option into this setup, for the reason that it is for early season ice where a hand auger works as well or better than a heavy power drill. Later in the year I switch over to pulling the house and my power auger fits nicely inside.
