Would you guys shoot these at yotes of is it a possiblity of just wounding them. Is it even legal to use them. I have a .308 and can get my hands on a ton of the stuff. just a thought

I guess personally I would not be worried about wounding a yote with a .308 FMJ. A 223 FMJ would be a different story. As with any shot, placement is key, a vital shot with an FMJ will most likely have the same effect as a vital shot with an expanding bullet, may not be DRT though. As to the legality, the FMJ restriction is listed under the "Legal Cartridges for Big Game" section in the regs so that should not be an issue.

FMJ's work great on yote's & fox for less fur damage. Have used them in 22-250 & up with no problem of run offs.

I just picked up a new coyote/deer rifle this past week n the gentlemen at Cabela's stated that it's illegal in Minnesota to use FMJ's to hunt coyotes. Is he right? He stated that it was because of the possible "skip" if you missed something and that the soft points, etc., would basically explode on impact if a shot was missed.

the only thing I could find in the DNR regulations is on page 55 in regards to big game:

LEGAL FIREARMS (INCLUDES HANDGUNS) FOR BIG GAME

• It is at least .220 caliber and has center fire ignition;

• It is loaded only with single projectile ammunition;

• The projectile used has a soft point or is an expanding bullet type;*

• The muzzleloader (long gun or handgun) used cannot be loaded at the

breech (muzzleloading revolvers are not legal for taking big game);

• The smooth-bore muzzleloader used is at least .45 caliber and

• The rifled muzzleloader used is at least .40 caliber;

• Muzzleloaders with scopes are legal during the regular firearms deer

seasons, but are not allowed during the muzzleloader season except by

special permit for hunters with a medically certified visual impairment.

Coyotes are not considered big game, so maybe to be safe, call your local CO, I would be interested to hear their take on it Elwood

Illegal...no...recommended....certainly not. It's not a matter of if you will have a coyote run off after being hit with a FMJ it's a matter of when.

There are much better bullets out there.

I agree JEV, there are a lot better bullets out there for a 308 and coyotes....
