convection heater shuts off

I have a convection heater that hooks to a 20# cylinder I use to temporarily heat the garage sometimes. It's the ones that are about 18" tall, tin surrond in octagon shape, it might be a Mr Heater brand. After about 5 minutes it shuts off and it's supposed to only be shut off manually. About the only part is the thermocouple. Can that be cleaned/ adjusted or might there be another problem?
