New truck which axle ratio?

Recommended Posts

I just finished looking at the same setup except with a 1 ton. Obviously you're getting a better low end torque and accelaeration with the 4.30 but a little better gas mileage with the 3.73. How often will you be towing that camper vs. not towing? I'd be only towing 5,500 pounds but probably 2-3 times a week. For me it's probably overkill but you will definitely need the Superduty for your towing needs.

The 6.2 is a nice engine with a really broad torque curve so it should handle anything you throw at it.

I will be towing about 9000lbs. But not all the time. This Vehicle is being purchased for Towing. It will also me my fishing and hunting vehicle. Not a daily driver though. From what I have heard the 4.30 will give you better mileage city driving and towing. Where the 3.73 may do better highway while empty. I am leaning towards the 4.30 but just wondering what others would do.

If you're going to be using it as said I would go with the 4.30 then. Gas mileage won't be that much different and you will notice the difference in pickup. Also know that a 4.30 is hard to find and you may have to order one as the 3.73 is standard on the Superduty. Good luck, it is an unbelievable truck.
