05 Ram 2500 4x4 diesel--Rear brake lock up

Recommended Posts

I was plowing last night and all of a sudden the right rear wheel started to lock up ONLY while going forward.

The left rear wheel was fine and never caused an issue. If I tapped the brake pedal, the rear wheel would simply lock up instantly and then I had to stop, reverse a little and then put it in drive and most of the time it would release until I hit the brake again GOING FORWARD ONLY.

The ABS light and the BRAKE light were lite up on the dash and when I shut the truck down they went off the first time. Then they came back on and didn't go out again.

I don't believe there is an issue with the pads or shoes on that wheel because there is no "noise" or grinding sound and there is no "problem" or noise when I brake in reverse. (and I just replaced them last fall, usually good for 2 years)

I didn't take the wheel off yet, but if this was some sort of ABS module, wouldn't that affect both wheels?

There was snow caked up all around the rear axle when the problem started, and I cleared off but didn't seem to take any difference. I felt the hub and it was cold, so it isn't a bearing or overheating issue either.

I'm wondering if snow got up in the housing and is messing with something in the wheel?

What are some of your thoughts on this?
