Chad Luebker
Hello - Ok, so this may be a dumb question but this is my first 4 wheeler I have owned. It's a 2007 polaris 500 EFI. When driving in High Gear it doesn't seem to ever shift or I can't hear it shift. Is this normal. I feel like when you hit a certain MPH or RPM's you should hear/feel a shift in gears. It just seems like it keeps going without noticing any gear shifting. Can someone please help........not sure if it's normal? Thanks,Chad
Dave S
Perfectly normal. Your Sportsman has a CVT transmission. No gears will be shifting in any Polaris ute with the exception of the short run of the 425 Expedition that did have a manual transmission.Otherwise the only shifting you'll see is the shift lever by your right knee to go from neutral to Hi, Lo or Reverse. bikeoutback
I'm always waiting for the shift on my buddies 2 Polaris machines, have to remember they don't shift. My wife's Jeep Patriot also has a CVT transmission so it also never shifts. You think it's weird driving a 4 wheeler that doesn't shift try getting it through your head after years of driving that the car isn't going to shift at all.
