Water Pump in Winter

pisces

Question

At the cabin: I have a water pump and well located outside the building. It is a submersible electric pump with a stand pipe 30 inches tall with a hose bib. The supply to the cabin is teed off and has a shutoff valve so I can pump water out the hose bib with nothing going to cabin. I would like to be able to pump water in the winter into buckets to carry inside (toilet, etc). I can turn the pump on/off with circuit breaker. QUESTION IS: when turned off, how fast does the water drain back down into the well?. Fast enough to not freeze? What about a pipe heating strip? Anyone with experience or expert info please respond. Thanks
