GPS puck ..JUNK??

gregg52

Question

Heres one for the wiring experts

My gps quit responding and so did the gauges for the motor

??????

I 'm presuming they are connected some how as you can get all the motor info on the the 520s.....which are junk to IMO

I think I 'm going to re-rig with my old flasher and garmin GPS

The heck with lowrance junk.....over THOUSAND bucks and only good for 3 yrs

Actually one 520 never worked right from the get go !!!!

Greg before you tear everything apart make sure that the power source has enough voltage to run everything. It sure sounds like you might have a weak battery in the mix. Double check to make sure all of your connections are clean and have no corrosion on them.

Since multiple issues popped up at the same time, I too suspect a power supply issue.

Check fuses, all connections, and voltage at the beginning and end of the circuit to the module.

May be as simple as a corroded connection?

As the weather starts to change, lots of these gremlins pop up with marine electronics. The weak link show up quickly.

Lets hope it's simple.

I thought maybe low voltage to

but it seems up to speed spins the motor over as normal

i checked the connection no corrision and tight

it does keep blowing the fuses that go to the locator

just happened over night

I feel ya!

If you don't trust your electronics you may as well be fishing with out them. My buddy has a lower end Lowrance and when we get out in the deeper water and are covering the same area he will comment that there are no bait fish while I am trolling through all sorts of stuff. Makes me wonder if they just don't put out the power they claim or can't process everything they are picking up.

I really like my LX25C but I have read enough stories to know there are a few lemons out there and you just might get more lemonade from Lowrance if you know what I mean winkgrin

I have a 334 on the console that I bought when they came out. After two or so years, the transducer seemed to be flaky. I bought a new transducer and after another two or three years it seems flaky. If I had to guess, both transducers were produced before Lowrance got acquired.

I don't blame you for being disgusted with Lowrance, I am too. But 60 bucks for a new transducer is way less than even a sale price on a 797. Of course I am sort of cheap that way.

    • Yeah it was a beatdown

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
