big_fish_guy
I originally posted on the trout and duluth forum, but got no response. Hoping someone can help me out.we will be camping up at Judge C.R. Magney park the week of aug. 18th. Question: We will be fishing trout on the brule river there. What should I use for setup/bait? I don't normally trout fish, thought it would be neat for the boys to try. All I have are spinning reels, so thats what I'll be using. Looking for some tips on trout fishing from shore up there.Anyone???
IFallsRon
I'd try a three-way rig with a fairly long snell and a big shinner or smelt.
Guest
I'm not sure if you mean the Minnesota Brule or Wisconsin Brule, but I'll guess it's the MN. Brule. It is full of small Northerns, for one thing, and using live minnows, such as Shinners or Smelt will result in lots of Northerns.I'd stick with #1 or #2 Mepps spinners or Fox Spinners, 1/8-1/4 oz. Cleos or Kastmasters. I'd even try a fat Crawler on a bare hook before a live minnow.Remember to keep your foot-falls and movement at a minimum while walking the banks or in the River itself because it will spook the fish.If you can make it down to the mouth of the Brule where it dumps into Superior, cast larger minnow-type baits and you can hook into a 15lb. or larger Northern.------------------Chells
