Wheel bearings and tire wear?

Recommended Posts

So my wheel bearings have been in need or replacement for a while now. I just went in and had my tires rotated and balanced I do this every 8k nothing mentions lastime but this time I need my tires replaced due to damage? I am planning on getting the bearings replaced soon when I get the time. but I was wondering if this could cause undue wear on the tires or If I might also have other issues.

You probably have other issues.

I brought the car in for an alignment and was told that the wheel bearings are shot and need replacement ASAP. Everything else seems good and tight but they could not do a proper alignment until the bearrings were replaced. So I am replacing the bearrings Hub assembly and brakes today. Does any one know what size the Drive axel nut is? Also is there anything else I should be looking at while I have this all taken apart?

Thanks

Whell I got the new wheel hub assemblies installed new rotors and pads. All should be good but is not.

1. ABS and Traction Control light are on and state they need service. Do I need to bring this in to the dealer to clear these warnings? Or did I get bad bearrings?

2. Tires have been rotated and balanced, Hubs, rotors, and pads are new. Yet I have a woob woob woob noise that resinates up through the stearing wheel still. The only thing I can think of is a warped drive axel? This is present from slow to fast It's not always there but present most of the time. Any Ideas?

Thanks for your time. I am going to bring in to get alignment tonight. I will have the shop take a poke at it, but they said that noise was due to the hubs beeing bad.

1. Are you sure you have the ABS sensors plugged in on both sides. Did the harness on the new bearings get damaged while installing them into the knuckles. Does the light come on and stay on right after you start or do you need to be moving in order for the light to come on.

2. Rotate the tires back to where they where and see if the noise is still there if it is you did something wrong. If not its the tires.

I double and tripple checked the Plug ins.... The ABS and Traction control lights are on from the getgo. that is what makes me think a bad hub. I was very careful with the wires and no damage that I could tell.

Tires....the back tires are getting bad due to the wear the front tire are decent but do have about 65k on them. Are you thinking a flat spot? I have never locked up the wheels.

I was thinking they might be cupping. If the sound doesn't change when you turn left or right when it is making the sound than its usually tires. If the sound changes when you turn left or right than its usually a bearing.

Where did you get the bearings from?

If the light comes on and stays on than there is a problem immediately during the self check. If the wiring on the new bearing or the sensor itself is open or bad it would cause this symptom. If you plug in one of the old sensors and turn the key on one of two things should happen either the light will go off or the light will stay on. If it goes off you know its that side of the car. If it stays on than plug the old sensor in to the other side. And see if the light goes off. If it does than its that sensor if it doesn't than you have issues between the connector and the ABS module.

Spear good Idea about the testing thing, never crosed my mind.

Airejer.... I got the bearrings (CRS) from St.Paul Park Dirty Dave's. I will not disagree that I need new tires but I have never herd a tire make a noise like this without a bouncing or wobble feeling. The noise is constant for the most part it gets slightly louder while swerving back and forth but not much.

Thanks guys... This is fun learning but boy it gets $$$$$.........lol cars

Check the connectors one more time. Open them up and look inside to make sure a pin isnt bent or pushed out of place in the connector. Its possible you got a bad hub, but I havent gotten a bad one yet, and I've done many!

This is exactly what was wrong one of the pis was bent I repositioned it and all is good.

So I have new brakes, wheel hubs, tires, and an Alignment. I am still getting a bounce out of the front end. I am guessing that the Stuts need replacing. ? I have is it best to rebuild with new parts or do a pre-built bolt-in like the monroe quick strut?
