Catfish Tournaments

Lastly, it is pretty late in the season to get most catfisherman excited about a contest. Of course they are still biting and we are still fishing, but if you want to optimize turnout (for catfish) would probably be pre-spawn.

I thought of this also last night.

The only positives I can think of about having a contest right now would be:

1) Channels are bulking up and still feeding.

2) Catguys are starting to think and get ready for sturgeon. Getting over to the Croix for a catfish contest might be of interest in getting back out on the Croix for some pre-sturge fishing time.

3) It is not "during" any spawn time.

4) Cooler water temps I would assume are better for lowering fish mortality?

The reality factor downside is though most cats guys are burning out on catfishing for the season right because of the late summer lulls and do not have the drive to drive or go out like they dis during the pre-spawn.

Heck, I have only been out catfishing about 10-11 times this year (the ekeventh constitutes as catfishing because I did get a line out for nd hour or so ) which is nothing. I read about this fishing contest and I thought of what Dtro said above right away, then my mind flashed threw and gave me a quick instant feeling of "skunk trip". Then I started to think though, where if Arnie had never came in and gave some insight, I would never gave a second though which has some positives to it like I stated.

Dtro bring up another good point. I have not looked at your website yet. What I do know is cat-fisherman (99.9999% of them) can navigate a river at night during flood stage, this just after testing the ignition control module and pulling the carb. off with only a LED headlight. This without bating an eye or even bring it up the next time around friends or at the baitshop. You make anything on the internet confusing, 99.9999% will pass out of fear of frustration.

That would be the only way I would, but next spring/early summer/summer.
