I plan to fish Grindstone next week for the first time - walleyes and smallies. I have never been on the lake before, any suggestions or information would be apprecaited? Any specific colors or patterns work better than others this time of year?? Thanks Dan

There's a protected slot out there from 14 to 18 and unfortunately the vast majority of fish I've been getting out there this summer are in that slot. We have managed a few both over and under it but they're few and far between. Been getting a few bass while walleye fishing but haven't targeted them.

I usually find red is the best color but a guy I work with that fishes it a lot swears by green (chartruese if that's how it's spelled.) Been mostly fishing with leeches but I stopped at both bait stores in Hayward yesterday and all they had was really small ones and not very many of those. If you can find them before you come up, I'd bring them with. Otherwise both crawlers and fatheads seem to work almost as well.

Hope that helps.
