don't you hate the last couple of days before a vacation.
1. you are so ready to get out and spend a week (or 2 if you are lucky) fishing relaxing up north somewhere or even dare I say it...Golfing!. that you doo not get half of what you would like to get done.
2. your boss drops a memo about a quick meeting that everyone is required to attend for next tues. ARRRGGGHHH! (cell Phone)
3. clients that you called on 2 weeks ago want to know if you can meet with them before you leave or worse yet, "find a time next week" (Dinner meeting Thurs night)
4. people in the office ignore the Do Not Disburb on your office door to ask you questions about files that they are covering for you next week, and the questions they ask make you wonder if they can handle those files for you next week. (cell phone again)

the heck with it! I am going fishing!

I always advertise to everyone in the office on a daily basis about 3 weeks out that I will be on vacation. I mention it in my status updates one on one with my boss, conference calls and even department meetings. That way when someone asks if I can take a call or something when I am on vacation I tell them 'shame on you for poor planning'. I will be on vacation next week and I can guarentee that if the enire computer network crashes I won't likely even get an email. As a manager I have two no touch rules: Never mess with pay and never mess with vacation. Hasta Luego
