Question for lawn experts

I have a section of my front yard, which may 15x15, I can grab a handful of grass and lift the sod right off from the dirt below it. The grass is just as green as the rest of the grass, but can be lifted right off the dirt. It appears the roots are just below the surface. My question is....WHY. Unfortunately I discovered this last year when I aerated my yard and ripped the SHAT out of my front yard. I do have a sprinkler system, but I do not over water the grass. Any ideas..?

Grubs is probably the #1 answer. White grubs eat the roots of the plant. The typical way for testing for grubs is to pull on a piece of turf and if it pulls up like sod, that is the most likely culprit.

Primary response is to use an insecticide that you spread on the lawn like fertilizer and then water it in very well, like a 1/2 of water or more.

Other likely signs of grubs id mole/vole damage in the lawn. They are eating the grubs.
